The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ
1. God is Holy and Our Creator
The gospel begins with God Himself. God is the sovereign Creator of all things, perfectly holy, righteous, just, and good. He made man in His own image to glorify Him and enjoy Him forever (Genesis 1:27; Isaiah 43:7). As our Creator, He has full authority over our lives and the right to command our obedience.
Revelation 4:11 – “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.”
Leviticus 11:44 – “For I am the Lord your God. Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy, for I am holy.”
2. God’s Law Reveals Our Sin
God gave His law to reveal His character and to show us what He requires of us: perfect, wholehearted obedience. The Ten Commandments summarize God’s moral law. Yet, instead of obeying, all mankind has broken His law.
Romans 3:23 – “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
Romans 3:20 – “Through the law comes knowledge of sin.”
James 2:10 – “For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it.”
3. Sin Deserves God’s Just Judgment
Because God is just and holy, He will not leave sin unpunished. The penalty for sin is death—both physical death and eternal separation from God in hell. We are all by nature children of wrath, under condemnation.
Romans 6:23a – “For the wages of sin is death…”
Hebrews 9:27 – “It is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment.”
Ephesians 2:3 – “…we were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.”
4. Christ Fulfilled the Law and Died for Sinners
But God, being rich in mercy, sent His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus, fully God and fully man, lived the sinless life we failed to live. He perfectly fulfilled God’s law. Then, He died on the cross in the place of sinners, bearing the wrath of God we deserved.
Romans 5:8 – “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
2 Corinthians 5:21 – “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
Galatians 3:13 – “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us…”
5. Christ Rose from the Dead
On the third day, Jesus rose from the grave, defeating death and proving that His sacrifice was accepted by God. He ascended into heaven and now reigns as Lord.
1 Corinthians 15:3–4 – “Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures… he was buried… he was raised on the third day…”
Romans 4:25 – “…who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification.”
6. Salvation Comes by Grace Through Faith
We are not saved by our own efforts or good works. Salvation is a gift of God’s grace, received through faith in Jesus Christ alone. To be saved, we must repent—turn from our sins—and trust in Christ for forgiveness and righteousness.
Ephesians 2:8–9 – “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God…”
Mark 1:15 – “Repent and believe in the gospel.”
Romans 10:9 – “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
7. The Promise of New Life and Eternal Hope
Everyone who trusts in Christ is forgiven, declared righteous, adopted into God's family, and given the Holy Spirit. Believers are being sanctified and will one day be glorified. Eternal life begins now and will be perfected in the life to come.
John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
2 Corinthians 5:17 – “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
Romans 8:1 – “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
